Christmas is a holiday season that gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy festive fervor. Christmas is all about hope, joy and happiness. Families come together and have parties and feasts with the near and dear ones. The entire home is decorated to welcome the festival of Christmas. Christmas tree is bought and decorated with flowers, wreaths, ornaments, bells and lights. Christmas has a lot of traditions associated with it. The tradition of Christmas tree, Christmas bell and so on. These traditions have historical significance. They have emerged in pagan times and people still enjoy following those. These traditions are meant for celebration of the Christmas fervor.

The Christmas bell is one tradition of Christmas that is followed from earlier times. The Christmas bells are loved by people of all ages. Some people use bells at the entrance of their home, as decorative pieces on Christmas tree, etc. the exact time when the tradition of having Christmas bells is not known. During pagan times, bells were rung to keep away evil spirits and demons. There are people who believe a bell was rung at the time of Christ's birth to announce the birth of an angel to save the lives of human beings. From that time onwards, at the midnight of the Christmas Eve, bells are rung to announce Christ's birth and to welcome the festival.

The Church always uses bell to announce events like birth, marriage and death. In same way, during Christmas bell was used as a noise maker to announce the festival season. Slowly, the Christmas bells made an entry into the households from churches. The kids enjoyed the sound of bells and hence, they became part of Christmas decoration. There is an anecdote of Santa coming on eight reindeers that had bells hanged on their necks. These bells made jingling sound and made the kids know that their favorite Santa has arrived with gifts. Christmas bells were used to collect charity for poor people.

People make use of Christmas bells in various ways during the festival. Some of the families bake cookies in bell shape. Many families prepare paper ornaments in bell shape to decorate Christmas tree. All the gifts exchanged with family and friends have a small bell attached to the wrapped gift. This makes a jingling sound when one opens the gift. The sound reminds people of Christ and Christmas. The festive fervor reaches its height when we hear Christmas bells in shopping malls, Christmas tree stores and everywhere around.

Christmas bell is a sweet tradition and has a historical background that every person believes in. So, even after so many years people make use of these bells in Christmas. The ways of using it are different as everyone enjoys the sweet music that comes out of it.
