The flammable Christmas candles are considered dangerous as holiday decors, particularly if there are kids in the house. This is because the candles may be left lit, and children who play around the Christmas tree and the rest of the holiday decor sets in the living room are likely to bump into these lit Christmas candles.

As such, fire can easily spread from curtain to curtain, especially with Christmas decors which are made out of synthetic and highly flammable materials. Electric Christmas candles can then be the best solution to get rid of such problems.

Christmas candles are an indication of the Holy Family in search for shelter and a place where Mary could give birth to Jesus. They thus form an important element of a complete holiday decor set for nearly all Christian families. Electric Christmas candles are now readily available in the market, particularly for those families who wish to stay away from the risk, in an event of an accident ensuing from lit candles.

Electric Christmas Candles - Availability

Electric Christmas candles nowadays are available in a wide variety of colors and designs. They come with an electrical cord which is used to plug the electric Xmas candles to electrical sockets to power it up. At times the electric Christmas candles also come with a transformer to rule out the problem arising due to the voltage specifications of your country and the electric Christmas candle not matching.

By purchasing electric Xmas candles from holiday shops during non-holiday seasons, you can actually end up saving money because most holiday shops reduce their prices during non-holiday seasons. They also hand out certain freebies and discounts on the Christmas items that you purchase during the non-holiday seasons.

Some electric candles have timers and you can hear lovely music once they are switched on. There are still others whose flames are designed in a manner to represent a candle's flickering flame such that they give the appearance of a real candle.

History of Electric Christmas Candles

In earlier days, a candle in the window signified where worship would be occurring for Christians in a community.

The illuminated Christmas tree, during Christmas, became a popular tradition in Germany during the Early Modern period. This tradition became established in the United Kingdom at some stage in Queen Victoria's reign, and through emigration spread to North America and Australia.

In 1832, the delighted 13-year-old princess wrote in her journal - "After dinner...we then went into drawing-room near the dining-room. There were 2 large round tables on which were placed 2 trees hung with lights and sugar ornaments. All the presents being placed round trees". Inexpensive electric power was developed only in the mid 19th century, and till then miniature candles were commonly (and in some cultures are still being) used.

The first electrically illuminated Christmas tree was created by Edward H. Johnson, an associate of inventor Thomas Edison. At the time when he was vice president of Edison Electric Light Company, a predecessor of Con Edison electric utility, he had Christmas tree light bulbs specially made for him.

He proudly displayed his Christmas tree. This tree was hand-wired with 80 red, white plus blue electric incandescent light bulbs that were the size of walnuts, on December 22, 1882 at his home on Fifth Avenue, New York City. Local newspapers simply ignored the story, considering it as a publicity stunt.

This news was later published by Detroit newspaper reporter, and Johnson became widely regarded as the Father of Electric Christmas Tree Lights. By 1900, most businesses started stringing up Christmas lights at the back of their windows. However, since Christmas lights were way too expensive for the common man, they could not become the chief replacement for candles until 1930.
