The Christmas nativity scene began due to St. Francis of Assisi in the year 1223. He set up the first nativity scene in the city of Greccio that is in Italy. It was simple and was staged in a cave on the top of a mountain. This nativity has living human beings and animals. This set gained popularity all over the country and soon every Italian church displayed a nativity set every Christmas. Soon, this idea was used by all the churches in the world and later people started setting up nativity sets in their houses.
A Christmas nativity is of two types if you differentiate it according to its dimensions that is two-dimensional which is set up using pictures and photos. Another is three-dimensional where people decorate the nativity set using figurines and statues.
The other two types of Christmas nativity are:
- Static Christmas nativity: A static set is a set that does not move. All the figurines are fixed to their positions. In the set you will find baby Jesus, mother Mary, Joseph, The Three Kings, angels, cattle, donkey and shepherds. These types of nativity sets are found in churches and houses.
- Live nativity sets: A Christmas play is called a live nativity set. The reason is that the characters are moving. A remote operated nativity set can also be called as a live nativity set.
Today, you will find Christmas nativity sets in every church and Christian house during Christmas. They look amazing and attractive. The other Christmas ornaments grow faint before it. You even get readymade nativity sets that you just have to buy and place in your house. Nativity sets look good inside as well outside. You can even prepare one at home. It is not so simple but when you do it with your family, you find priceless fun in it.
