Christmas tree is synonymous to the festive celebrations of Christmas. Choosing a beautiful Christmas tree and bringing it home prior to Christmas is a ritual followed by many families. The tree is bought before hand so that it can be decorated and kept ready for the Christmas Eve. Today, the customers have an option of both the real as well as artificial Christmas trees. The beauty, freshness and smell of real tree make the Christmas atmosphere joyful for the entire family. The artificial tree can be used for years to come, as it can be easily stored in the house and is not expensive like real trees.

The artificial trees are made from various materials like plastic, optical fiber, aluminum and so on. These trees are exact replica of the real trees and therefore, the customers are attracted towards them. The artificial trees are a result of the awareness against cutting of trees. The green belt across the globe is diminishing due to deforestation. Hence, artificial Christmas tree is a substitute that helps in saving real trees. When they were introduced in the market for the first time, they were advertised as eco-friendly. Later with the passing of years, the customer understood the ill-effects of this tree manufactured artificially.

The artificial tree was first manufactured and introduced in Germany in the late nineteenth century. These trees were made out of goose feathers. The feathers were dyed in green color to give that look. They were available in various sizes. The branches of these trees had red berries to hold ornamental decorations. The only problem with this tree is it is inflammable. This was the first step of emerging artificial trees, which later became quite popular. A lot of new trends were seen in the arena of artificial tress with their growing popularity.

  • Brush Bristle Christmas Tree - After the feather trees, an American manufacturer prepared artificial tree from brush bristles. These trees were made from animal hair bristles that were dyed green. They were better than feather tree as it could carry weight of heavy decorations. They were available in small as well as large sizes.

  • Aluminum Christmas Tree - The artificial tree made out of aluminum is quite popular. It is available in various sizes and shapes. These are manufactured in cities like Chicago, Wisconsin, etc. where the sales of these trees reached to great heights in 1950s and 1960s.

  • Plastic Christmas Tree - The most popular artificial tree is made out of recycled plastic, which is not biodegradable. The trees are made out of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These trees are available in various sizes and colors. These trees are manufactured in China. They look just like real trees. These trees are hazardous to the environment as well as young kids as they have high level of toxins like lead, which can be fatal.

  • Optic Fiber Christmas Tree - In recent times, one can find fiber optic artificial trees. These are pre lit trees full of lights. The fiber optic tree comes in two different varieties. The first one is just like a Christmas tree and the second one is made of fiber optic cable.
