Christmas is a festive season celebrated through out the world. Christmas has a universal appeal. Christmas celebrations are part of all the Christian homes. Families get together to clean houses and decorate it with twigs of evergreen trees like holly, mistletoe and so on. The family is all decked up with a well lit, well-decorated Christmas tree to welcome Christmas. The Christmas decorations are planned well in advance before the actual celebrations. The decorations include wreaths, fresh flowers, ornaments, lights, tinsel and so on. The Christmas ornaments are of various types and are passed from one generation to other. Every family has some special family Christmas ornaments.
Christmas ornaments are items used to decorate the Christmas tree. These ornaments are made from plastic, wood, glass, metal and ceramic. The ornaments are available in various shapes, sizes and colors. Today, we get ornaments that have intricate designs that are artistic. These ornaments are not purchases every year. Every family has a collection of such ornaments that are bought from market or handmade by family members. This collection is passed from one generation to other and it keeps on increasing. Figurines of angels and Santa Claus, colored balls, stars, fruits, animals and snowflakes are the common ornaments that one observes in Christmas decoration.
In the olden days, Christmas trees were decorated with nature's produce like white candy canes, apples, pastries in form of flowers, stars and heart and strings of popcorn. Once, industrialization started glass balls were manufactured, these were called baubles. The baubles are spheres used to decorate Christmas tree. They are found in various sizes and designs. The baubles can be handmade or are available in local markets and shopping malls. The glass ornaments were in shapes of fruits and nuts. They had a cap or hook on the top side, which was used to hang them on the tree.
Chrismons are a typical ornament that is pat of Christmas tree decoration. These ornaments are hand made as they cannot be bought from the market. These ornaments are supposed to be Christ's monogram and therefore, they are not sold. They are white in color with gold and pearl decoration. The white color stands for purity while gold represents glory and pearl is the God's beautiful creation. Hence, these are special ornaments that adore the Christmas tree. The Christmas tree is decorated with the topper that is in form of an angel or a star. These tree toppers are made out of glass or plastic. These toppers are electrified.
The Christmas ornaments are an excellent piece of decoration used to decorate Christmas tree. These ornaments have religious significance and are symbolic. The Christians who believe in Catholic beliefs use ornaments as religious signs.
